Great atmosphere, large patio with subdued lighting, climbing vines and hanging plants, antiques, fans in the summer and a fire pit for cold weather. Not a dive by any means (well, sometimes the bathrooms?) but comfortable in its own skin. I've been coming here for 25 years and it really hasn't changed much. Bartenders are friendly and laid back but bar can get overrun at during peak hours. Cash only (pricey on-premise ATM) and parking can be challenging.

Doubtful. It's a real simple bar, mostly. Food is there as a convenience to guests, pretty much restricted to soup, sandwich and salad. July 2020: THIS PLACE IS CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO CV19. PLEASE PRAY IT REOPENS!! The Garage was once featured in Conde Nast's Best Bars in America!!! Very unique, and a great place to take Birmingham visitors! Very memorable!
